EDF Energy

Creating accessible websites

EDF Energy, formerly London Electricity launched their new corporate web site to comply with the implications of the accessibility legislation set out by the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

Under the act it is unlawful to provide information that is not accessible to everyone, regardless of ability. Web sites providing goods and services should be accessible or they are prosecutable by law. The Ecru team have the skills to audit sites to evaluate their accessibility and construct websites that comply with the disability discrimination law whilst not compromising on excellent design. Our sites are both beautiful and accessible. (Read a recent article on accessibility by our lead consultant Matt Williams).

The EDF web site at www.edfenergy.com is an attractive and accessible site that demonstrates a commitment to provide accessible information to all of EDF’s 5 million UK customers. The web site complies with and often exceeds W3C priority 2, comfortably conforming to the requirements of the act.

Matt Williams, consultant at Ecru said “EDF were keen to demonstrate their commitment to those with disabilities without compromising on the design and brand impact”.

EDF Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK. They employ more than 11,000 people, supply gas and electricity to over 5 million customers, and are a major generator of electricity.

As one of the largest regulated and private networks operators in the UK they distribute electricity to over a quarter of the country’s population. They are one of the few vertically integrated companies, which means they manage energy from the moment it’s harnessed, to the second it’s used, with expertise in generation, distribution and supply.
